Bob's Next Adventure!

Bob finished up his lunch, sat in his little cottages front garden. Hamish and Lena were off exploring the town. Bob had been into town earlier and sold the bits he had found on the goblins and made a nice bit of extra gold. Nothing to retire on but for a first adventure it was a start. Hopefully next time they will find more treasure.  He heard Hamishs laugh coming down the street. Bob stood up and cleared his left overs away as Hamish and Lena walked into the yard. It was good to have friends Bob thought, especially adventuring friends! "Bob lad! Me and Lena have had a good look around. Nice little town you got yourself. People are friendly I can see why you live here. Any hoo we heard  up at the market that there is a paladin asking around for help in some kind of holy mission. Now I've heard that there be treasure around them holy sites and I don't know about you I like treasure. " the Gnome smiled happily his blue tattoos almost beaming. Lena was silent as usual, she hadn't spoken much at all but Bob just assumed elves were like that.
" Well that sounds like a grand idea" Bob said. "I'll head to the market see if I can track down this paladin" Bob headed out towards the market stalls on the centre of town. After the short walk Bob came to the market, people went to and fro. The sound of haggling and laughter  echoed in Bob's ears. The scent from the baked goods stall filled his nostrils. The baked good store  was his favourite store in all of Shireheath but no time to be distracted by a pie!!  Bob looked around the market, he couldn't spot a Paladin  but then come to think of it he wasn't sure what a Paladin would look like. He scratched his head, he remembered the regal looking chap who met the heroes of Shireheath and was sure he was a paladin. He wore quite heavy armour so look for someone in some serious armour. He wondered round, "How do Bob?" a voice called. Bob turned round and spotted a familiar face. Trevor a local farmer, a tall rotund man with a bright red face. "I'm good thank you Trevor. Just after a Paladin, I've heard he's been asking for help" Bob replied. Trevor rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Ah that'll be that wierd fella hanging around the temple . He has all fancy armour, all clean and shiny like. Oh you be an adventurer now! I heard that from someone. How's adventuring going?"
Oooo Bob was fascinated that there was a rumour about him!! "Well only been on one job  but that was a success! Killed some goblins." Trevor seemed impressed "Well good bloody goblins sneaking round stealing and killing" Bob spotted a glint of armour over Trevors shoulder, "Trevor I've got to go, adventurer business and all that" Bob said quickly. Trevor nodded "Fair enough I best be off also important farmer business" Trevor walked off towards a Bush and started to urinate. Lovely!! Bob thought. He headed towards where he saw the glint. After a few minutes he spotted a man in metal armour talking to a priest. Bob walked over and heard the 2 talking. "I'll need some help? I haven't found any adventurers yet though I have heard of a new group arriving in town so I'm hoping they will help" the armoured chap was saying. The priest nodded. Bob coughed and walked forward." Greetings I'm Bob and I hear you are looking help?" the man in armour turns round to face Bob. He was tall with blonde short hair and seemed to be quite young. He wore heavy looking armour and had a shield on his back. An ivory handled sword was in a sheath at his side." Greetings and you are? “ his voice was educated and he clearly came from one of the big cities." I'm Bob  I hear you were after help in some kind of Adventure. I have recently started and have 2 colleagues also able to help if the rewards are correct." look at me Bob thought talking city folk like this! Bob flushed with pride.  "Well hello Bob. Its not just an adventure it's a battle against evil and the very soul of the country" the man said with a passion that made Bob step back. "Well that's a good reason I understand but I assume there will be treasure or a reward?" Bob replied. The man brushed some dust of his armour. "I'm sure there will be some. A holy site has been overrun by a foul necromancer and I intend to slay the evil spawn."  Now Bob wasn't entirely sure what a necromancer was but it sounded bad but it was his second job in only a couple of days! “Splendid! I'll tell my colleagues and we can prepare and meet you at the gate tomorrow at dawn?" Bob replied. The man smiled a beaming friendly smile and placed a hand on Bob's shoulder" Excellent!!! I knew there were some brave souls in this town. I'm Ivan, paladin at your service " The man then grabbed Bob's wrist in a warrior greeting. Bob thought his head might pop with pride at being treated this way. No one cared when he was a guard and here he was a week later  being treated this way. OK calm down Bob look professional! " Right I shall go and inform my colleagues and we shall prepare" Bob walked away and headed back to the cottage. Hamish was relaxing in his bed and Lena was fiddling with her bow. "Good news I got us another job! I found that Paladin and he going after a necromancer. So we set out tomorrow at dawn!" Bob said enthusiastically. Lena looked up from her bow "A necromancer?" Hamish smiled "Excellent those vile polluters of nature need stopping. You can't be raising the dead it's not the natural order" raising the dead??? Bob thought that sounds scary. "Yes Ivan said that some holy site has been overrun and he's going to take it back. He's very certain about that" Bob said trying to push the raise the dead bit out of his head. "Yes these religious types to tend to be quite certain..... Until it all goes wrong but a job is a job we didn't sign up for an easy life" Lena said. She stood up and started to find her pack.
That afternoon was spent preparing their packs and getting supplies. Bob settled in his bed excited and nervous at the prospect of seeing something completely new. He drifted off to sleep thoughts of treasure in his head.
Hamish shook Bob awake "Time to go laddie" Bob rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He was lovely and wrapped up in his blanket but adventure calls! First though nature calls!
After dealing with the call of nature Bob dressed quickly. Hamish was cooking bacon, he pushed a plate over to Bob. "Get ya lips around this matey. Today we be adventuring!" Bob wolfed down the food, the bacon was delicious, nice and crunchy just like Bob liked. Bob looked around  he couldn't see Lena. "Where's Lena Hamish?" Hamish looked up from his frying pan "Ah she's gone for a wander. Elves don't bleedin sleep so she gets fidgety while us mere mortals have to rest." Hamish emptied 6 rashers of bacon onto a plate and dropped the drying pan into a bucket of water. The sizzling released another waft of bacon smell. Bob took a big sniff of the delightful smell and started gathering up his kit.

Bob and Hamish headed out, Bob locked up his cottage. Probably a good thing he didn't get that cat he was contemplating earlier in the year with this new career he has chosen he idly thought. Bob checked everything was on him and comfy. He then walked with Hamish to the entrance of town. There was Lena and Ivan waiting. Lena looked serious..... Well she always looked serious Bob thought so it was hard to tell when she was or wasn't.
"Greetings!!!" Ivan yelled as Bob and Hamish made their way over. "Morning" Bob replied. Ivan reached out his hand and gave Bob a firm warrior handshake. Ouch! Bob thought and rubbed his arm.
"Right now we are all here let's get on our holy quest! “ and with that Ivan strode out of town with more confidence than Bob thought he would ever have on his entire life.  The three followed Ivan out of town a crowd watching the intrepid adventurers as they left. Bob smilied at the people in the crowd as he left the town hoping no one could see his nerves. Surely  the nerves would get easier the more he did it?
